QUIZ NIGHT RETURNS ! Friday 3rd Feb. 8PM

That's Crimbo and New year out of the way, crikey there's nothing fun and exciting to look forward to til Easter now.

But wait!!!!!!!

On Friday 3rd of Feb, at 8PM, there is the world famous Abingdon Rugby club quiz night.  Tickets are £5 in advance, and can be bought behind the bar from Sunday 8th Jan, or from an under 15's member.

As usual first question will be at 8PM, but doors and bar open from 7.30. Meal of Chilli jacket spud, or beans and cheese veg option is included in the price.

Individual prizes for round winners (from the bag of joy), wooden spoon for losers, £50 prize for winning team. Max 6 members per team.

All questions are thoroughly researched, (and the answers are usually fairly close to being right.) No specialist knowledge required, and even the less bright can win (see the last winning team ;-)

There is also an award winning raffle which was described by one person last time as.......a raffle.

This event sold out last time, so get your tickets early to avoid having to sit outside with a bag of pork scratchings and a Horlicks !!

Don't believe the hype? Then read these reports from local news sources rating the last one;

"An absolute triumph of an evening. Everything moved forward seamlessly to the glorious and thrilling crescendo of the final round"  The Tadley Times.

"It waz the dog's, innit?"  The Sutton Courtenay Sun.

"I had a beer or three, and fell over"  The beerlovers weekly

"I answered loads of questions.....and one of them was right"  The Front Row's Review.

See you there !

IAN BLAND MEMORIAL FIXTURE REINSTATED

Adverse weather and player unavailability had caused a traditional Rugby match between Abingdon and the Oxfordshire Fire Service to be cancelled for the past three seasons but it is now to be reinstated. Always previously played on New Year’s Day, the fixture is a memorial to player Ian Bland who died in a car accident in 1982, and it will now take place on Abingdon RFC’s new floodlit pitch on Tuesday 8th November; kick-off 7.15pm.

A former pupil of Fitzharrys School, Abingdon, Ian was a popular and highly talented player at the town club and would regularly guest for the Fire Service during their midweek games. Following his untimely death aged just 21, a match in his memory between the two sides was arranged for 1st January 1983, a game in which over 50 players participated. It thereafter became a regular New Year fixture for the next 25 years as the teams battled for the same trophy presented at that first event.

Ian’s mother Judith Bland will again be presenting the trophy to the winning captain and said she would be delighted to see as many of Ian’s old friends at the evening as possible.
