Abingdon Rugby Club - A Wasps Community Club

1 month ago By Amie Hedges

Abingdon once again are an affiliated club with Wasps and this opens a lot of new doors and opportunities for everyone.

Over the summer, the committee has been liaising with Wasps and we are happy to announce we are once again affiliated with Wasps.

On Wednesday 30th August, three members of our committee attended the Wasp Community Conference at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry. At the conference, we were shown what Wasps can do for us and how we can work with Wasps for the upcoming season. There’s something for all the family at Wasps and things start early with activities for aspiring rugby player and opportunities to meet the players.

Community Tickets - As an affiliated club, wasps offer cash back on all tickets purchased for Wasps Games. We have a specific code which can be placed when purchasing tickets. Last year, Wasps gave back £25’000 back into the community clubs!

Match Day Mascots – The Mascot experience has proved to be one of the most popular initiatives with Wasps. It gives the children a chance to get up close and personal with the professional players. The Mascots are selected as competition winners.

Gameday Coachclass – this excites me. You can get the ‘Total Rugby’ experience for players aged from 7 all the way to senior level. You get to be involved with a 90 minutes high quality rugby training session, but then get the exciting added bonus of watching Wasps in action at the Arena.

Match Day Tag Rugby Challenge – The kids the opportunity to play like the professionals. Play Tag Rugby on the Ricoh Arena Pitch at the Half Time interval of the big game. This is only available to affiliated clubs, so it’s a very exciting opportunity.

Land Rover Premiership Cup – The under 11 and Under 12 Grassroots rugby festival is part of a series of nationwide tournaments which provide aspiring young players with the opportunity to showcase their abilities in a professionally organised tournament. They will be battling it out for the title of Regional Champions in a fantastically well run festival with the local premiership rugby club.

Additional to all of the above, if we commit ourselves to being part of the Wasps Community we can get the support from Wasps in the following aspects:
• Opportunities to host our Premiership Rugby Coach Classes
• Access to Wasps Raffle Prizes
• Fundraising Assistance
• Website Links
• Guest Coaching Sessions
• Introduction to Contact Rugby Coach Education Sessions
• Coach Education Classes
• Support at our events and festivals
• Opportunity to host bespoke Wasps Events
• Priority bookings on Match Day Activities
• Opportunity to enter Wasps Festival Events
• Opportunity to apply for the use of the Wasps Community Partner Logo.

Something exciting for the future! Look out for more information, events and opportunities.
