Abingdon Rugby Club is a community club with a current emphasis of encouraging every player to achieve full potential whilst enjoying both the sporting and social aspects of the game. Founded in 1931, Abingdon RUFC boasts a playing membership of 250+ with a full range of Mini and Junior teams to compliment the three Senior sides. Fully qualified coaching is available to those of any age or gender who wish to improve performance or who have simply never played the sport and want to give it a go! We enjoy our own dedicated facilities of a large modern clubhouse with four pitches and a floodlit training area. For any further information or details of membership opportunities (playing or otherwise), please don't hesitate to contact us.
The Mini/Juniors Rugby Season at Abingdon RUFC starts on the first Sunday in September, and the Senior sides kick off the second Saturday in September.
Abingdon RFC Minis welcomes players from age 5 years to 16 years. The practical lower age limit is 6 although well co-ordinated rising 5s would not be turned away. Under 6’s are unable to play in competitive games for insurance reasons. We also have a Colts team and 2 Senior sides and it doesnt matter how old you are if you can runnaround and pass a ball we will welcome you with open arms.
The Abingdon Sevens traditionally opens the Home Counties’ playing season and has attracted sides from throughout the Country and beyond. Initiated in 1956 as a one-off tournament to celebrate the town’s 400th anniversary of receiving a Royal Charter, it proved so successful that the decision was made to retain the competition on an annual basis and as such we therefore hold the claim to hosting the longest running club Sevens in England.
We are a community club and have forged a partnership with London Wasps as well as reduced prices for games we also benifit form coaching sessions for the coaches as well as the players
We really are one big family as Abingdon Rugby Club and we are always looking for new players of all ages and gender.

Mission Statement
“To provide residents of Abingdon and beyond the opportunity to experience, participate, contribute and enjoy Rugby Football”
Abingdon Rugby Club is one of the oldest in Oxfordshire and was founded in 1932, exactly 100 years after William Webb Ellis is credited with inventing the game at Rugby School. Abingdon boast one of the oldest consecutive club 7’s tournaments in England which is played in late August as an opening to the new rugby season in south Oxfordshire.
Since the move from Hales Meadow where the club shared facilities with the Cricket Club, to the Southern Sports Park in 1987 the club has continued to develop. This has been due to support from the RFU, Oxfordshire RFU, VWHDC, Sponsors, Vice Presidents and a lot of hard work from many Volunteers.
We aspire to be a friendly community rugby club offering access to the game for all ages from U7 to Veterans. The club has 4 full size pitches, one of which has match floodlights. The club welcomes new players of all ages and ability.
Attracting and retaining players is a key success factor for any sports club. We need to ensure our position within the area by serving the immediate community with good facilities and coaching for the ambitious social player right through to schoolboys and girls.
Maintaining the key values and ethos of Rugby are high on the club’s agenda as it is what differentiates Rugby from many other sports.
